HARTFORD:  Pullman & Comley’s annual Winter Party on February 2 for clients and friends of the firm raised awareness for the work of The Open Hearth and Freshplace.  Hundreds of members of the Greater Hartford business community turned out at The Society Room and showed their support for these two local organizations that serve those in greatest need.

About The Open Hearth

The Open Hearth is the oldest organization in Hartford providing housing and supportive services for men.  Its mission is “Helping men help themselves in order to transform their lives.”  The facility includes a 25-bed shelter that is filled to capacity on a nightly basis, and a kitchen that serves more than 111,000 meals each year to residents and shelter guests, most of whom are homeless or recovering from addiction or incarceration.  The Open Hearth’s residential programs include a 42-bed Transitional Living Program and a 43-bed DOC Work Readiness program.  The Open Hearth uses a “continuum of care model” that allows men to proceed from the shelter through transitional living with an end goal of permanent housing and employment, all in a recovery-based environment.  Please visit www.theopenhearth.org for more information.

About Freshplace

A collaboration between Foodshare, Chrysalis Center Inc., and the Junior League of Hartford, Inc., Freshplace is an innovative food pantry that aims to tackle the issues of chronic hunger in Hartford.  These three organizations have constructed a 2,000 square foot facility in Hartford's Upper Albany neighborhood to provide fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy products in addition to pantry staples.  Freshplace also provides comprehensive intake and referral services increasing access to food stamps, health and crisis intervention programs, public assistance and educational services that address the root causes of hunger.  Freshplace helps individuals and families to stabilize and guides them on a path to achieving better health, and greater self-sufficiency.  Visit www.jlhartford.org/freshplace for more information.
